On the 22nd February the 2017 Brit Awards will be taking place at London’s iconic O2 Arena, and I am lucky enough to be attending for the fourth year in a row! Every year I like to make my winner predictions before the big night to see how many I get right, and last year I had the idea to do a blog post full of all my predictions, so I thought that I would do it again this year too!
I have also already made my performer predictions post that you can read below this post:
BRITISH FEMALE SOLO ARTIST
Lianne La Havas
I’m going to be honest, I feel quite disappointed with the nominees in this category. I have only heard three out of the five nominees, and even they may be stretching it to deserve a nomination this year. I believe that Ellie Goulding is the most deserving artist in this category as she was on her world tour for the most of 2016, however I think that Emeli Sande will win this because her new album, Long Live the Angels, went to number two on the UK Albums Chart – demonstrating that even after a break, she can still top the charts. I am really torn between Ellie and Emeli, but I think Emeli may just do it.
BRITISH MALE SOLO ARTIST
Skepta is up for most of awards at this years’ show, usually indicating that he will win most of his nominations, however I believe that in this category it is actually Craig David who will win. 2016 was such an amazing year for Craig David as he had such a successful comeback into music. Usually artists who release a comeback album may have it chart perhaps in the top 20, however his latest album, Following My Intuition, went straight to number one on the UK Albums Chart. The fact that Craig David is such a legend, mixed with his brilliant comeback to music, means that he will (hopefully) be winning the award on the night.
This is a very tough category because all nominated acts are successful in their own right. While the likes of The 1975 and Bastille have had immense success over the past year with new albums and tours, I think that Little Mix will be winning this award. Dubbed as the biggest girl band in the world, the girls’ latest album Glory Days became their first number one album, as well as becoming the longest reigning number one album by a girl band since Spice Girls' debut album (which was released 20 years ago!) Overall showing that Little Mix are the true winners in this category.
INTERNATIONAL FEMALE SOLO ARTIST
Christine and the Queens
While I think that it is quite likely Beyoncé will win this, the past year has also been incredibly successful for Sia. Although Sia may not be as big of a star as Beyoncé, judging it in terms of the music released over the past year, I think that Sia will be winning this award.
INTERNATIONAL MALE SOLO ARTIST
I'm going to start this with an unpopular opinion, Drake is extremely overrated. This isn't to say that he's a bad artist, it's the fact that he gets an unnecessary amount of hype over things that wouldn't be that much of a big deal for any other artist. Because of this I hope The Weeknd wins instead, because his music is incredibly unique and he is just effortlessly talented. This might be a close call though as Bruno Mars has just made a huge comeback to music with a massive sellout tour, which could make him quite a strong competitor. However basing it on the past year of music, I think that The Weeknd will/should win this award.
A Tribe Called Quest
Drake & Future
Kings of Leon
Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds
Twenty One Pilots
I don't know enough about these bands to make a judgement on who I think should win, however looking at social media I often see a lot of support for Twenty One Pilots. So, because of their huge fanbase, I think it could be quite likely that they take the award home.
BRITISH ARTIST VIDEO
Adele - 'Send My Love (To Your New Lover)'
Calvin Harris Feat. Rihanna - 'This Is What You Came For'
Clean Bandit Feat. Sean Paul & Anne-Marie - 'Rockabye'
Coldplay - 'Hymn For The Weekend'
James Arthur - 'Say You Won't Let Go'
Jonas Blue Feat. Dakota - 'Fast Car'
Little Mix Feat. Sean Paul - 'Hair'
One Direction - 'History'
Tinie Tempah Feat. Zara Larsson - 'Girls Like'
Zayn - 'Pillowtalk'
This award is voted for by fans, so instead of it being based on what artist has made the best video, it's all decided by who has the biggest fanbase, because the bigger the fanbase, the more people there are to vote. Therefore, because of this I think that even though they arguably don't have the best video, One Direction will still win this award because they have the most amount of fans. (But I do think it could be quite a close call with Little Mix, as they too have a huge fanbase)
BRITISH BREAKTHROUGH ACT
This is a very hard category because I think that everyone who has been nominated in this is worthy of the award. Even though this award is also voted for by the public, I think the results will be very close because I've seen so much support for all acts. However, because Rag'N'Bone man has also won the Critics Choice award this year, I think that his ongoing success would make him a big contender to win this award as well.
MASTERCARD BRITISH ALBUM OF THE YEAR
The 1975 - i like it when you sleep, for you are so beautiful yet so unaware of it
Davie Bowie - Blackstar
Kano - Made In The Manor
Michael Kiwanuka - Love & Hate
Skepta - Konnichiwa
To me the clear winners of this award are The 1975. With a huge tour last year and selling out dates at the 02 Arena, The 1975 have gone from strength to strength, with their music engaging people of all ages. I feel like The 1975 are the underdogs of the music industry that never fail to disappoint when they release new music, making them very worthy of the most prestigious award of the night.
I'm really excited to see how many of these awards I've got right! Make to watch the awards on the 22nd February to see who the winners actually are, as well as all of the amazing live performances. And don't forget to read the Brits 2017 Performer Prediction post here:
Luke Rainsford is a solo artist from Wolverhampton, and later this month his second album I Feel At Home With You is due to be released. I was lucky enough to listen to the album before its release date on February 17th, and I definitely wasn’t disappointed!
Before listening to I Feel At Home With You I wasn’t too sure what to expect, but after listening to the first song All My Songs Sound The Same, I started to get a rough idea. The song starts out with a humorous ‘Aw Fuck’, creating an instant connection between Luke and the listener. From early on in the song you can tell that Luke has a very distinct and unique voice, as well as producing songs with incredibly catchy lyrics.
What I really love about listening to this album is how much Luke’s English accent can be heard when he sings. There are some English artists that for some reason sing with an American accent, but when listening to Luke, especially in the song Fingernails, this definitely isn’t the case. Fingernails also excellently portrays the truth behind relationships, with very honest lyrics. It’s refreshing to hear someone sing about love in a more realistic way, and I think that’s what is so great about Luke Rainsford, he doesn’t try to be someone he’s not.
When I interviewed Luke (see link at the bottom), he discussed how artists such as The Wonder Years inspire him, and how he likes to put his own acoustic spin on their sound, which I think he definitely does well. The fact that Luke is an acoustic artist that is inspired by bands such as The Wonder Years rather than the likes of Ed Sheeran makes him really stand out, and after listening to this album I believe that there is definitely a gap in the industry for him.
Overall I would really encourage anyone reading this to listen to the album when it comes out, because even though this isn’t an album I would typically listen to, I really enjoyed it.

And don't forget to get the album on February 17th!
It's 2017! I've been doing Pick of the Month for almost a year now, and I am so excited to read what my top music pics have been over the past year! As I start 2017 I am really looking forward to what this year has ahead in terms of music, and with so many great new releases already, I know that I won't be disappointed.
SONG: Text from Your Ex (feat. Tinashe) - Tinie Tempah
I am going to start this by being completely honest...I am a big Tinie Tempah fan, so arguably my views could be quite biased....However, whether I was a fan or not, I know that I would still love this song. Last week Tinie dropped two new songs, Text from Your Ex and Chasing Flies. Chasing Flies sounds a bit different to the music that Tinie usually releases, but he still managed to make it work! The only reason I prefer Text from Your Ex is because it's a lot catchier - a song that you can't help sing along to in the car! Both Tinie and Tinashe's voices also work really well together, making their vocals complement each other perfectly. I really hope that this is the first of many collaborations for Tinie and Tinashe!
ALBUM: The Fame Monster - Lady Gaga
This month I haven't really been listening to any new albums, instead I've been giving myself a blast from the past and listening to older albums, including my favourite album all time: The Fame Monster. This album has a special place in my heart as it makes me think of the times when this album would be all I listened to, subsequently making me realise how much of an inspiration Gaga is to me. The variety of songs on this album is incredible, from some of the most well known pop songs in the world (Poker Face, Just Dance and Bad Romance) to some of the slower and incredibly powerful songs, such as Speechless and Brown Eyes. This album to me is a piece of art, as every song tells a different story and has a different sound, demonstrating how much of a talented genius Gaga really is.
Not only this, I have also been listening to this album much more because on Sunday (February 5th), Gaga is taking to the biggest stage in the world, the Super Bowl. This is the stage where Gaga really belongs after years of success and hard work, and I am beyond excited to see her performing some of her old hits once again!
